Environmental genetics / metagenomics is the study of genetic material recovered directly from environmental samples. There are two main techniques:
  • Amplicon sequencing: specific genes are sequenced (e.g.
  • rRNA gene)
  • Shotgun sequencing: the total metagenomic DNA is sequenced
Contents
The general principles and the differences of the two types of analyses will be introduced. The wet lab procedures of both methods will be explained.
Analyses of Amplicon and Metagenomic data will be performed on the UFZ Galaxy server.
