The acquisition of third party funding is becoming more and more prevalent in the daily work of researchers. This helps bring research forward, finances research groups, expands research infrastructures, creates publications and funds salaries and travel costs.

Astrid Schmitz spent many years as Head of Research Funding at RWTH Aachen University, supporting scientists in the acquisition of funding and assisting with applications for major strategic projects. In the context of the Excellence Strategy, she later headed the Aachen Office of the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance. As Key Account Manager for the four large non-university research institutions, she supported the development of joint strategies on topics such as appointments, personnel development, promotion of young researchers, transfer and public relations.
In 2022, Astrid Schmitz founded Sz-Coaching (www.sz-coaching.eu) and works currently as an independent consultant and trainer in the fields of research funding, research strategy and science management.
Didactic Aims
During the course, participants will get an overview on the different funding organisations and will have the opportunity to discover the funding programme which suits their needs. They will learn the different phases of writing a successful proposal and get a lot of practical tips. After the course the participants will have identified their individual funding programme. They will have an overview about how to write a competitive proposal and will have already started making their first steps with writing their own proposal.
